|
Synopsis |
Whilst
studying for a degree, Gareth used his carpentry training to build film
and theatre sets in and around London. He soon progressed from Set Technician
to Construction Manager and then to Art Director. In 1987 Gareth was invited
to become the personal student of Mr Peter Proud, a veteran of sixty years
in film starting in the art department under Alfred Hitchcock. This apprenticeship
lasted almost two years, during which time Gareth continued working on commercial
projects and short films as an Art Director, eventually taking over from
Peter as the Head of Department in Production Design at The London International
Film School.Gareth began scriptwriting, with the short film PHANTASMAGORIA (Tiziana Caminada), a film that Gareth also designed. PHANTASMAGORIA was successfully sold to Television and was awarded several prizes including the Best Short Film at The Vevey International Festival Of Comedy. Feeling he needed to broaden his horizons Gareth moved to the Continent settling in Lausanne, Switzerland. He began by designing productions in Switzerland, Germany and Italy, setting up the company Wolfmoon Film Design. In 1992, Gareth began the transition from Designer to Director, concentrating on commercials and corporate films. He wrote and directed the short film DEADLINE which was brought by several television companies and awarded a prize by the Film Fondation Vaudois. He undertook to direct several magazine programs for the French language television station in Switzerland and was invited by Television Suisse Romande to write and present a series of lectures on the construction of the image to their creative staff. Wolfmoon Film Design became simply Wolfmoon Film, a company that continues today. In 1995, Gareth continued to write, direct and produce corporate projects specialising in using fiction to communicate corporate ideas. Amongst these projects were two short films for the Swiss Post Office: ROBOT BLUES and BLOOD BROTHERS. Although they were both intended for internal use only, these films were bought by two television networks and ROBOT BLUES is on permanent display at the Post Office Museum in Bern. In 1996 Gareth felt he was ready to take the step towards feature films; it was also time to come home. When a Businessman committed to invest in Gareth's idea for a feature film, he returned to London establishing Automatic Pilot Ltd, and writing and developing BODYWORK. Since completing BODYWORK, and in conjunction with his duties as Managing Director of Automatic Pilot Ltd, Gareth has completed a further two feature scripts: THE EASTER MAN, a high concept US based thriller and; PETER & WENDY, a psychological drama set in the UK. These will enter the production phase in the near future. |
